On Thursday 28th January, GP’s across West Cheshire attended a highly inspirational afternoon with Sir Sam Everington from Tower Hamlets CCG. Sam described the innovative models of care in Tower Hamlets including the use of technology, closer working with the integrated community care teams, social care, and patient led self-care. Sam also explained that their GP federation in Tower Hamlets (GP Care Group) Acts as an umbrella organisation for their co-federations/clusters.
Dr Jonathan Gregson Primary Care Cheshire Chair highlighted the similarities between Tower Hamlets and what West Cheshire are working towards which is the vision of West Cheshire CCG and Primary Care Cheshire – the West Cheshire Way. There was a group discussion surrounding the future of primary care and the rapidly changing landscape for general practice. There was also discussion’s about the benefits of being part of a federation i.e. economies of scale and only having to do things once rather than each practice doing it individually.
One of the key messages of the day was to take a chance and be innovative in our approach to improving patient care and to not be afraid to lead the change.
