December 2016 Bulletin
As the year draws to a close we would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for their continued support and recap on some of our achievements this year: Renewal of the DVT contract and redesign of the DVT pathway - the new pathway is currently being trialled in Chester city with a view to roll out across the patch in February 2017
Renewal of AVS contract for a further 12 months
Renewal of Curzon House care home contract
Indemnity – working with main providers to work out a federative deal for members
Prescription management hub – we have now applied for funding and are awaiting a decision from the Innovation Agency
Flu – we worked with the CCG to try and help with the proposal for the specification for the management of the prophylactic antivirals in the case of influenza outbreak. However we felt that the requirements for some of our members could be high in terms of man hours if they were requested to provide prophylaxis. As a result we did not continue with interest in this project
The annual subscription for the Nursing Times revalidation toolkit for all nurses in West Cheshire has been paid for out of PCC profits
Health checks for East and West Cheshire – we secured the contract with East Cheshire Local Authority for practices covering patients in East Cheshire and have now agreed terms with Cheshire West & Chester council for all West Cheshire practices.
Locumbook 247 – this is now live and locums have registered to use. Egton are now in the process of adding practices to the system, for further information please contact Devon (email@example.com)
Training: in 2016 we arranged and facilitated the following training: first aid, chaperoning, health & safety, read coding, HR for managers PCC Chair The position of Chair is still open and being covered by existing board members on a monthly rota, if you would like to discuss the role further or are interested in becoming Chair please contact Nicola (firstname.lastname@example.org) 2017 Member’s meetings We have now agreed dates for member’s meetings for next year: Wednesday 22 February Tuesday 25 April Wednesday 28 June (AGM) Tuesday 26 September Wednesday 29 November All meetings will be held at 19:00. We are also looking into better use of technology at these meetings and are looking for a venue that uses video conferencing so members can participate in the meeting even if they are unable to attend in person. Please note: At the last meeting members asked us to investigate opportunities to employ general practice staff (GPs, nurses and administration) who could then be sub-contracted to practices where resilience was low. We have followed this up
and there are some legislative barriers at present relating to VAT payable on the sub-contracting of staff and also the NHS contractual criteria for providing NHS pensions. We are continuing to work on this to establish a solution because this kind of service is the blue print for federative working and exactly what we want to be looking to provide to our members.
